bouldering at Huddersfield phot: ruth dawson

Huddersfield Wall is at the Huddersfield Sports Centre in a dedicated room. There are in-situ ropes on slabby, vertical and roofed walls of medium height plus a couple of lead-only lines. The bouldering area is well-used with featured panels plus a distinctive elephant's trunk feature. There is a sports centre cafe. Courses are run at the wall. Phone: 01484 223630 and ask the Sports Centre desk if you can speak to Richard Yorke.

Opening hours are: Mon-Fri 7.30am to 10pm; Sat 9am to 8pm; Sun 8.30am to 9pm.

s During the winter months, bouldering circuits aimed at power-endurance (around 25-80 moves) are 'tagged' at the wall. The grades are usually in the range H6- to H8- (... there is a loose correspondence to French 'sport' grades, but note the word 'loose').
If you create new problems, tag them with the stickiest carpet tape available (otherwise the tags get booted off quickly by the clumsy) and try to avoid making the difficulty of the problem purely a function of the height of the climber.

Info on new problems is welcome.
